The Uganda Health Marketing Group (UHMG) strives to provide essential, affordable health care solutions to all Ugandans through a combination of social marketing and innovative campaigns. Launched in 2008, UHMG interventions are focused on maternal and child health and family planning, malaria control and HIV/AIDS prevention and care.
UHMG is at the forefront of innovative malaria programming with a shift in emphasis from prevention only to early and correct testing before treatment. UHMG implements integrated family planning programs to encourage smaller families and promotes practices of proper antenatal care, safe deliveries, and postnatal care.
To create customer-driven health marketing, UHMG has developed award-winning campaigns that have sparked life-saving behaviour change. Informed by research, UHMG campaign messaging, design and execution take an evidence-based, culturally relevant approach to effect positive change.
Promoted through radio, television and billboards, the Smart Choices campaign provides families with a variety of family planning options. Good Life Promoters also lead activities that help men and women to make sound family planning decisions. The Stop Malaria campaign encourages caretakers of young children who are symptomatic to take them to clinics for testing. HIV prevention campaigns include “One Love” to promote monogamy; “Boda Boda” to train HIV prevention specialists and a female condom initiative.
