Egypt Honors CCP’s Innovative Work on H1N1 Flu Prevention

The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Center for Communication Programs (CCP) has received a high honor from the Government of Egypt for its assistance in the fight against pandemic influenza.
On December 14, 2009, Egypt Minister of Health Hatem el-Gabaly and El Gomhorreya newspaper presented members of CCP’s Egypt office with the Award of Excellence in Health and Pharmacist Service in recognition of efforts in support of the national response to AH1N1.
Since April 2009, the CCP Egypt office worked with USAID and the Government of Egypt to produce a comprehensive campaign raising Egyptians’ awareness of behaviors to prevent the spread of influenza. CCP, in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Health, aired TV and radio spots, disseminated millions of print materials and conducted extensive outreach on flu prevention.
Early in the outbreak, prevention materials were disseminated to all air terminals, seaports, and most government offices; later, materials were disseminated through 50,000 schools as well as in clinics, through an estimated 30,000 pharmacies, in corporate offices, universities, rural communities, and grocery stores. CCP helped leverage USAID and public funding for materials with support from private sector partners.
