485 a Day Campaign Celebrates Lives Saved from Malaria

CCP’s Voices project rolls out its 485 campaign in the run-up to World Malaria Day, April 25th.

The campaign celebrates the progress made and the return on investment in saving lives – 485 a Day – thanks to proven malaria control interventions that work, sustained funding by national governments, the U.S. and global donors, bold leadership and innovative partnerships across boundaries.

In fact, global malaria deaths dropped by almost 10% between 2008-2009 and many African countries have cut malaria cases by over 50% in the last decade.

This is much cause for celebration, but malaria continues to kill a child every 45 seconds or 1,920 lives every day. Every year, almost 800,000 people die of malaria, more than 90% of these deaths are in Africa. Yet, malaria is preventable, treatable and eradicable. Every life lost is needless.

Someone once said, “every day is World Malaria Day”. At CCP, we tackle malaria with that spirit, believing that a malaria-free future is within our reach.
