Laboratory testing is the cornerstone of diagnosing and treating HIV and other diseases, with Africa carrying the largest and most overwhelming burden. At the end of 2009, around 22.5 million people in sub-Saharan Africa were living with HIV. In Nigeria, 3.3 million people are infected. Many African laboratories and laboratory workers are poorly equipped to handle the high demand.

As a result, the USAID Mission in Nigeria awarded JHU•CCP’s Knowledge for Health (K4Health) Project a new bilateral aimed to establish a required, comprehensive Continuing Medical Laboratory Education (CMLE) program. Having access to a CMLE program among Medical Laboratory Scientists could significantly improve their ability to deliver accurate and reliable laboratory test results.

K4Health has years of experience developing eLearning courses for health care professionals working in developing countries, building capacity of other organizations to develop their own distance learning program and implementing innovative ideas and new technologies to make learning useful, engaging and meaningful for busy professionals working in resource-constrained settings around the world.
