Today, researchers from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Center for Communication Programs (CCP) present findings from a recent evaluation of its Global Health eLearning platform at the 19th International AIDS Conference.
The Global Health eLearning platform was designed to meet the diverse capacity building needs of global health professionals, particularly health professionals in developing countries who have the most need for public health knowledge but the least access to it.
Findings from the evaluation indicate that the Global Health eLearning platform is a pioneer and leader in transferring evidence-based knowledge to learners in developing countries. For some learners, the eLearning courses are the only sources of valuable and updated information to which they have access.
As of April 2010, the eLearning platform had reached more than 50,000 registered learners who had earned more than 50,000 certificates and who represented 184 countries. Of the top 30 countries receiving certificates, 15 were located in sub-Saharan Africa. Of the learners who successfully completed a course, nearly 20% were USAID staff. By June 2012, the eLearning platform had registered more than 70,000 learners worldwide.
CCP developed the eLearning platform to provide access to timely and reliable information from credible sources to strengthen the public health profession, particularly in the developing world where access to useful health information remains limited. The Global Health eLearning platform is managed by the CCP Knowledge for Health (K4Health) Project.
