On December 1, World AIDS Day celebrations took place around the world. In Haiti, Malawi and Tanzania, CCP’s cutting-edge approach to HIV prevention in our USAID-funded projects in these countries was featured and lauded by partners, beneficiaries and Heads of State who attended the festivities.

In Pétion-Ville, a suburb of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, President Mr. Michel Martelly and First Lady Mrs. Sophia Martelly, participated in the World AIDS Day celebrations. CCP’s EVIH-T project assisted with the planning of the event that also featured the Minister of Health and Population and the US Ambassador to Haiti. Haiti’s National AIDS Control Program used World AIDS Day to promote a new national campaign to respond to the AIDS epidemic; EVIH-T, along with many international and local partners, designed the communication components of the campaign. First Lady Mrs. Martelly praised the efforts of organizations like CCP that jointly work with the Ministry for Health to fight the virus.

President of Malawi, Dr. Joyce Banda, was presented with the Support for Service Delivery Integration (SSDI) Moyo ndi Mpamba campaign poster at the World AIDS Day national celebration held in Kasungu District in central Malawi. The poster promotes male involvement in maternal health and encourages men to support their partners and attend antenatal visits, messages that speak to Dr. Banda who is a champion for quality maternal health under her Presidential Initiative for Safe Motherhood. Male involvement is believed to be critical for promoting good health behaviors and influential for reducing HIV transmission.

In Tanzania, Vice President Dr. Mohammed Gharib Bilal visited the Tanzania Capacity and Communication Project (TCCP) booth at the World AIDS Day celebrations held at Mnazi Mmoja Ground in Dar es Salaam. The TCCP booth featured the Tuko Wangapi? Tulizana campaign, a campaign that educates about the risks of concurrent sexual partnerships and seeks to reduce concurrency.
