Mobolaji Temitope used to believe that all modern contraception caused health complications so she was reluctant to use it. She and her husband had used condoms and the withdrawal method to space their first two children, but then he said he would no longer use condoms.

Soon enough, she was pregnant with a third child, one they hadn’t planned on.

When she was in her second trimester with this third baby, Mobolaji met representatives from the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs’ Post-Pregnancy Family Planning project while at a pre-natal doctor’s visit. She was given detailed information about family planning and they answered all of her questions.

“Right there, I made up my mind and was determined to take up a [modern contraceptive] method [as soon as her baby was born],” she says.

Indeed, 48 hours after giving birth, providers gave Mobolaji an IUD.

“This change is very important to me because it gives me peace of mind, it eradicates the issue of getting pregnant again and I can plan well for my life,” she says. “I am determined to spread the good news of family planning to every woman that cares to listen.”
