ITNuse.org is an interactive platform that tracks access to and use of insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) – one of the most effective ways to prevent malaria. It provides national and sub-national data on ITN ownership, household access, use, and the use-to-access ratio, helping programs understand not just whether people are sleeping under nets, but whether they actually have enough nets to use.
For years, low reported net use puzzled the malaria community. CCP helped uncover the real issue: lack of access, not lack of willingness. By reframing the data through the use-to-access ratio, ITNuse.org has changed how malaria programs and funders plan, distribute, and evaluate net campaigns. The tool reveals where gaps exist (by region, wealth, age, gender, or season) so that resources can be better targeted for impact.
How it helps:
- Visualize ITN data through interactive maps, charts, and downloadable reports
- Compare trends across nearly two decades of data from DHS, MIS, and MICS surveys
- Access programmatic recommendations to strengthen malaria vector control and behavior change strategies
- Download data and maps to support planning, advocacy, and reporting
Developed and sustained by CCP, ITNuse.org was first introduced through USAID-funded malaria projects and continues today as a digital investment – open, accessible, and designed for anyone working to fight malaria. Despite major funding cuts, CCP remains committed to keeping this critical resource available to all.
